• Breast Cancer Awareness Talks

What is breast cancer? What are the risk factors associated with breast cancer? What are the signs and symptoms of breast cancer? What is the best way to get screened for breast cancer?

BCRC answers these and many more questions during its Breast Cancer Awareness Talks. Talks are conducted by a BCRC staff member and a breast cancer survivor, and are provided free of charge to community organizations, schools, corporations, churches, women’s groups, etc. If you would like to arrange a Breast Cancer Awareness talk for your group, please contact BCRC.

• Health Fairs

BCRC participates in local and regional health fairs sponsored by community groups, medical associations and corporations. BCRC Peer Educators are available to answer your questions, teach Breast Self Examination, and provide you with educational materials to take home.

If you would like BCRC to be an exhibitor at your next health fair, please contact us.

• Women of Wisdom

Women of Wisdom is a unique breast cancer education program that utilizes high-impact peer education to make sure women understand that breast cancer can happen to them and to empower women to take responsibility for their own breast health. Women of Wisdom brings together five real women who have been affected by breast cancer to share their inspiring stories. These women have fought and conquered breast cancer, or have helped a love one or patient cope with the disease. Program participants will relate to and be touched by their stories. A Women of Wisdom presentation is not a lecture, but rather a gathering of women telling their stories, talking about their lives, and helping each other recognize the importance of early detection through regular screening.

Each Women of Wisdom presentation takes approximately 90 minutes and is conducted in three segments: an introduction, the women of wisdom panel, and a question and answer. Each participant is provided with a Breast Health Toolkit and a voucher entitling her to a $25 Wal-Mart Gift Card when she gets a mammogram. Every effort is made to make the surroundings and the session comfortable, inviting and informal. If you would like to book a Women of Wisdom presentation for your group, contact BCRC.

This program is supported by a grant from the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Central and South Jersey Affiliate.
