4th Annual "In the Pink" Fashion Show - September 12, 2008

BCRC's 2008 "In the Pink" Fashion Show truly launched Breast Cancer Awareness Month in style! This very special evening brought together over 250 guests to celebrate the strength, beauty and spirit of breast cancer survivors and the courage and compassion of their support network. The models - breast cancer survivors along with their husbands, children, doctors and nurses - showcased stunning fall fashions from Chikara Designs, Chico's, Eastern Mountain Sports, Incredible Me, J. McLaughlin, Sylene's, Talbots, and The Dandeline Shop. They inspired the entire audience with their joy and zest for life as they strutted down the catwalk, and moved more than a few to tears. Mayor Phyllis Marchand, Dr. Rachel Dultz, adn vocalist Doreleena Sammons-Posey touched the audience with their heartfelt remarks and encouraged everyone present to continue supporting those affected by breast cancer, and the organizations like BCRC that assist them.

We are thrilled to report that the 4th Annual "In the Pink" Fashion Show raised over $25,000 to benefit the Breast Cancer Resource Center (BCRC)! These funds will play a vital role in sustaining BCRC's ability to continue supporting women and families affected by breast cancer with FREE programs including private counseling, support groups, a resource library, a wig & prosthesis bank, a guest speaker series, and a wellness program.

Our thanks go out to everyone who made this inspiring event possible and successful.

The Nurturing Journey Retreats 2008

May 30 – June 1, 2008 & October 10-12, 2008

The Nurturing Journey Retreats are weekends designed especially for breast cancer survivors, to give them the opportunity to work on building the courage, confidence, and self acceptance that are essential to coping with the physical, emotional, and spiritual challenges of breast cancer. Women of all ages, from all walks of life, and in all stages of the breast cancer journey come together to escape from the stresses of everyday life, and relax, share, and heal in peaceful and comforting setting with new and old friends.

In May and October of 2008, BCRC held two wonderful Nurturing Journey Retreats at Stella Maris Retreat Center, on the beautiful New Jersey shore. Women attended these retreats which were facilitated by a group of experienced women leaders including Misha Crosbie and Jessica Fleming - experienced retreat facilitators; Elsje Reiss - a licensed clinical social worker and BCRC support group facilitator; and Karin Steinhaus - a certified master hypnotherapist and a teacher of Gentle Kripalu Yoga. Participants enjoyed a full program of sharing circles; yoga, imagery and meditation sessions; writing exercises; exploration of creativity through art and music; complementary therapy sessions; a labyrinth walk, and much more. These retreats gave each participant the opportunity to take time just for her - time to learn, to grow, to find strength, and to reconnect with body, mind and spirit.

Our thanks goes to the above named facilitators, as well as complementary therapy providers Tatiana, Tanya Blue and supporters.
